The best bike you’ve ever owned, is a bike that’s made just for you.
Custom means different things to different companies. Is it simply being able to choose your own paint? Is it taking a few body measurements and then looking in a book to come up with the pre-determined frame size? Is it designing a large range of frame sizes and then fitting you onto the one that most closely matches your “rider profile”? We don’t think so. We know building you a truly custom bike is so much more. It’s not something that you can just look up in a book or take from a chart. Yes, body measurements are important, but you cannot build a truly custom bike for someone without knowing more about the rider. Titus was founded on building custom bikes. We started 16 years ago with our very first road and mountain frames being only custom models. This is before the term “women specific” or “certified fit expert” even existed. In our world, building a custom bike is all about you. We have been building custom bikes longer and better than anyone.
So how does it work and what makes ours better? Read on!
THE FIT
We like to start with some basic body dimensions taken by one of our highly knowledgeable Titus dealers. For some companies, this is the
end of the process. For us, it’s just the beginning. For you, a new Titus is probably not your first bike. Most riders have experiences
(both good and bad) aboard previous bikes. In addition to your body measurements, our dealers will measure the set up of your old bike.
Some customers say: “Why would you measure my old bike? I hate my old bike”. Well, as the saying goes, you can’t see where you’re going
if you don’t know where you’ve been. Most riders have some idea of what they like or do not like about their previous bikes. In fact, we
have customers who loved the fit of their bike, but overall, wanted something that performed better. Any way you look at it, if you have
a problem with what you’ve been riding, it’s a lot harder to address if we don’t know anything about your old bike. Likewise, if you are
really comfortable on your current bike, we like to see how it coincides with your physical measurements, and make even further fit
improvements without changing the things you like most. This is really just the start of finding out more about you as a person, and as a rider.
THE RIDE
Once you get properly fit for a bike, we use your information to determine the basic geometry, but what about the ride, the feel, the
handling, and the performance? We believe a truly custom bike is so much more than using a one-size-fits-all tube set built to your
dimensions. This is what really sets Titus apart. We have over 75 different options for tubing diameter, wall thickness, and materials.
Every tube is selected to give you the ride you want. Not just for your weight, but for how and where you ride. Are you a spinner? Do you
climb out of the saddle? Do you race crit’s once a week but do a hundred mile training ride every other week? Was your last bike unstable
on the descents? Is your fondest cycling memory that of an old Italian steel frame, or a big tube aluminum bike? These are the types of
things we ask when we build a custom bike for you. We will get to know who you are, how and why you ride. In fact, once we know everything
about you, we will do a custom drawing just for you. It’s a personalized blueprint that shows your bike, and all the important dimensions.
It has everything you need to know about your new ride. These are the actual plans that will be used to build your bike. This is unique to
Titus and it insures that we are building a truly custom bike just for you.
